Bethlehem, PA - Yesterday the Washington Post ran a damning expose on one of the wealthiest and most powerful Republican operatives inside the Beltway. Fred Malek, the former special assistant to President Richard Nixon, was in charge of identifying and documenting Jewish employees in the Bureau of Labor Statistics. New documents which the Post recently obtained confirm that Mr. Malek was also directly involved in removing Jewish employees despite his previous statements to the contrary. According to the article, Mr. Malek who earned the nickname “the hatchet,” has yet to weigh in on these new revelations about his past.

This story is relevant to the Lehigh Valley because Mr. Malek now serves as the Chairman of the American Action Network. This is the organization that has commercials on the air right now praising Congressman Dent.

“I find it deeply disturbing that the person who was in charge of identifying and firing Jews for Richard Nixon is so actively engaged in supporting Congressman Charlie Dent,” said Mayor John Callahan. “I reject this kind of intolerance and I think Congressman Dent should too. If Charlie Dent doesn't take a clear, immediate and principled stance against Mr. Malek by calling for his group to stay out of this election, then his silence can only be interpreted as approval.”
